Blacktown stabbing: Police release CCTV following 17-year-old’s death in alleged street brawl

Fresh footage has emerged of a man police say may be able to assist with enquiries as they investigate an alleged street brawl that left seven people stabbed and a teenager dead.

Police have released new CCTV vision of a man they say may be able to assist with enquiries after a teenager was allegedly stabbed to death during a horror street brawl in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services found seven males with stab wounds along Suffolk and William streets in Blacktown about 10pm on Wednesday, September 1.

A 17-year-old boy with a laceration to his abdomen died at the scene.

Three teenage boys, two aged 13 and one 15, were rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead – two were in critical conditions and one was in a serious condition.

Two 17-year-old boys, and a 20-year-old man were taken to Blacktown Hospital for treatment. All six had since been released.

Four people, three 17-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man, have so far been charged over their alleged roles in the incident.

They all remain before the courts.

But on Tuesday, NSW Police released new CCTV vision of a man they’d like to speak to who they say may be able to assist with enquiries.

The man was described as of African appearance, aged in his early 20s, of solid build, about 165cm-180cm tall, and with a shaved head.

He was shown wearing a black, hooded jacket, black tracksuit pants, black and white running shoes and a black face mask.

Police believe he boarded a train at Blacktown Train Station and then left the train at Chester Hill Train Station after the incident on September 1.

Blacktown Police Area Commander Superintendent Steve Egginton said detectives believed other people were involved in the death of the 17-year-old.

“The boy’s family and loved ones deserve answers and detectives will continue to investigate this matter until all those involved are brought before the courts,” he said.

“We are urging the community to look closely at the CCTV footage and to come forward if they have any information about the identity of the person depicted in the vision.”

The mother and father of the 17-year-old boy, who wished to remain anonymous, said the loss of their son had left an “immeasurable impact” on their lives.

“Our son was from a loving family that is now grieving his loss after he suffered a sudden and violent death,” they said.

“While we wish to retain our privacy at this very difficult time in our lives, we are appealing for anyone who knows anything at all to come forward.

“We want to ensure all those responsible are arrested and charged, and in the hope that no other family will experience what we have.”

Following the incident, police established a crime scene and seized a ‘Zombie’ knife, machete, kitchen knives and golf clubs from the scene.

Anyone with information should phone Blacktown Police Station on (02) 9671 9199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
