A man has been charged with murder after an older man was beaten to death with a baseball bat at a coastal home while a young girl was inside.
A man will front court on Thursday charged with murder after another man was allegedly beaten to death with a baseball bat inside a Central Coast home.
Emergency crews responded to a break-in at a home on Trigg Rd in Chittaway Bay, about 20km north of Gosford, on November 2.
Officers were told a man entered the home and assaulted the occupant, a 70-year-old man, with a baseball bat, before fleeing on foot.
He suffered head injuries and was rushed to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition where he died a short time later despite desperate attempts to revive him.
Two other occupants, a 67-year-old woman and 10-year-old girl, were home at the time and not injured.
Police raided a home on Lorraine Ave in Berkeley Vale – just a few minutes drive from Chittaway Bay – where they found 30-year-old Paul Clarke who allegedly fled the scene when police arrived.
He was arrested nearby.
Officers also seized a number of items, including a baseball bat and jacket which was allegedly discarded by the man in a neighbouring backyard.
Mr Clarke was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with murder.
He was refused bail and is expected to face Wyong Local Court on Thursday.
