Dallas man charged over alleged hit-run, scooter rider fights for life

A scooter rider is fighting for life in hospital after allegedly being hit by a car in Melbourne. The driver is facing charges.

A Melbourne man has been charged after a motorised scooter rider was found critically injured after an alleged hit-run crash in the city’s north.

The 45-year-old Dallas man was arrested after a police helicopter spotted his vehicle and tracked it to Brunswick on Sunday evening.

He’s been charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, intentionally cause serious injury, fail to stop and render assistance plus drug offences.

The man was allegedly driving on the wrong side of Campbell St in a Holden Commodore when he struck a 46-year-old man riding on a motorised scooter at Campbellfield on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a pretty awful situation to (allegedly) leave someone on the side of the road with those sorts of injuries,” Detective Sergeant Daryll Out told reporters on Sunday.

The scooter rider remains in hospital with critical injuries, including serious head injuries.

The Dallas man will face court on Monday.
