Gladesville siege: Image reveals cop’s head wound while man charged with attempted murder

A grisly image reveals the injury suffered by a police officer during a dramatic siege, while the man behind the alleged attack has been charged.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a dramatic siege in Sydney’s northwest on Tuesday where a police officer was allegedly stabbed in the head.

The siege started at a unit on Punt Rd, Gladesville, just after 11am on Tuesday when officers responded to a domestic violence incident.

When they arrived 38-year-old Zubair Joarder was inside the home and allegedly armed with two knives.

NSW Police allege Mr Joarder then attacked a probationary constable, 26, who sustained lacerations to the back of his head from a knife. The officer also suffered a dislocated shoulder.

A fresh image has now revealed the extent of the gruesome wound.

The officer was rushed to hospital for treatment while police – including a negotiator and tactical police – swarmed the scene.

“(Officers) arrested a 38-year-old man without incident a short time later,” NSW Police said.

He was taken to Ryde police station and charged with causing wounding (grievous bodily harm) to person with the intent to murder, two counts of being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of common assault, and breaching an apprehended domestic violence order.

He was refused bail and will appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday.

The police officer has since been released from hospital.
