Melbourne gunman intercepted by police in Vodafone

Police have arrested a man with a gun inside a Melbourne Vodafone store hours before the city’s planned reopening at 6pm.

Police have intercepted a gunman inside a Melbourne Vodafone store, potentially avoiding a deadly outcome for shoppers and workers.

The man was arrested after entering the store on Bourke Street, in the CBD, just after 11am on Friday, Herald Sun reported.

No one was injured prior to the arrest and the retailer has reportedly been taped off by police.

Officers had yet to determine the individual’s motives, according to a spokesperson.

“Police located a man with a firearm inside the foyer of a commercial property on Bourke Street just after 11am and he was taken into custody without further incident,” a Victoria Police spokesperson told the publication.

“Police are yet to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The distressing incident came hours ahead of Melbourne’s planned reopening at 6pm.
