Munbura: Death of boy, 4, near Mackay now a homicide investigation

The death of a little boy in Queensland’s north is now being treated as a homicide investigation after it was originally reported as a drowning.

The death of a four-year-old boy in Queensland’s north is now being treated as suspicious after a post-mortem examination revealing inconsistencies with the original report made to police.

Queensland Police on Wednesday said the death of a four-year-old boy at Munbura, near Sarina, on Sunday was now a homicide investigation.

The boy’s death was originally reported to authorities as a suspected drowning.

A post-mortem and scientific examination later indicated the cause of death was inconsistent with drowning.

The boy was pulled from the water of a backyard pool at a property in Munbura in August.

Paramedics tried desperately to save him but he later died at Mackay Base Hospital.

The circumstances surrounding how and why the child was located in the pool remain under investigation by Mackay Detectives from the Child Protection Investigation Unit’s State Child Trauma Unit.

The investigation is being codenamed Operation Tango Anise.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have further information which may assist with investigations, to contact them.

Senior police will address the media later on Wednesday with more information.
