Detectives have trawled missing person databases over unconfirmed reports of a murder in a regional town with no luck. Now they’re pleading for help.
Detectives are appealing for public help to validate unconfirmed reports a man was murdered in the Victorian city of Ballarat five years ago.
Anonymous reports received over the last two years suggest an unknown male was murdered in the region in early 2016 and his body disposed of by unknown means.
The force’s Missing Persons Squad have made countless inquiries and thoroughly searched state and national missing person databases, but have been unable to identify anyone whose disappearance matches the information provided.
Investigators are now appealing to the public for any information on people from the region who have not been seen or heard from over this time.
Anyone who may have information about a possible murder in the Ballarat region in early 2016 is also urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
“Though this is quite an unusual case, unfortunately, it is not unheard of for somebody to go missing and never be reported,” Detective Sergeant Maurice Ryan said.
“There can be varying reasons for this, but when information like this is received, it is our responsibility to ensure we investigate fully and do all we can to establish if there is any truth to the information.
“For this reason, we’re asking anyone with any information on a possible murder in Ballarat in early 2016 to come forward and contact police.”
