Victoria records 797 new local Covid-19 cases

Victoria has recorded 797 new locally acquired Covid-19 infections, while eight more Victorians have died with the virus.

Victoria has reported 797 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases and eight more deaths on Tuesday.

The number of new daily infections has fallen in the past three days, with the state posting 1221 new cases on Saturday, 905 infections on Sunday and 860 on Monday.

A total of 53,527 people got tested for the virus in the past 24 hours.

There are14,131 active cases in the state, with 394 people in hospital, 72 people in intensive care and 44 on a ventilator.

About 87 per cent of Victorian residents aged over 12 were fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded 212 new cases on Tuesday.

Two more people died with the virus as 67,893 residents got a Covid-19 test.

Restrictions are set to be eased further once 90 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over were double dose vaccinated, which was anticipated to be on November 24

Gathering limits, capacity and density limits will no longer apply when the state hits that threshold.

It comes as private hospitals and day surgeries in Melbourne and Geelong resumed performing elective surgeries at 50 per cent of their normal capacity from Monday.

These hospitals also resumed non-urgent surgeries, provided they leave space for potential non-Covid patients to free up beds at public hospitals for people with the virus.
